Nomination StatementThe Problem
-Self-directed consumers are frustrated with researching and purchasing life insurance. They don’t use advisers but struggle to find quality propositions and options in a way that meets their need for control. Many customer journeys fail or end in default choices
- Self-directed consumer numbers are considerable (c.39% of the market) and growing. Other insurance categories have customer journeys that meet self-directed customer needs but life insurers have failed to act. The risk of not solving the problem is that these consumers fail to get the life insurance protection they need for themselves and their families
The Solution
-Qantas, Australia’s largest airline with over 11.7 million Frequent Flyer members, and TAL, Australia’s largest life insurer have partnered to deliver a new life insurance solution to meet the needs of self-directed consumers and protect more Australian lives • Qantas Assure Life Protect was launched in February 2017, allowing consumers to build their own personalised cover through their channel of choice (entirely online, over the phone or through a mixture of both). They are able to see the impact of each choice they make on their premium and educate themselves about their life insurance options
- The product allows customers to purchase “adviser-grade” cover. By focusing on experience and breaking the product into “blocks” it meets self-directed consumers’ need for control
- Furthermore Qantas Assure Life Protect customers are rewarded with Qantas Points on an ongoing basis and for undertaking healthy activities like walking, running and cycling which is underpinned by the Qantas Assure Wellness App
